Getting Creative With Food
The great thing with food is that you can do whatever you want with it. If there is a particular ingredient in a certain recipe that you do not like, then you can swap it out and replace it with something much more to your tastes. The purpose of this post is for us to look at three recipes and give you our favourite ideas, however why not try some of your own and get in touch if you find something better than ours?
It is usually much easier, especially for those not particularly confident in the kitchen, to play about with simple recipes that are easy to make, rather than those that tend to be reliant on certain ingredients.
Try playing around with these three simple recipe ideas and see what you can come up with.
Spaghetti Bolognese
If you have never been to Italy, I recommend you go there. Specifically, travel around and try a simple recipe such as this, and note how different they are even from one village to the next. Even in the United Kingdom there are over 150 different recipes in use for spaghetti bolognese, such is the popularity of the dish and ease with which it can be changed.
Our favoured idea is to take out some of the beef mince, and either swap it with turkey mince or even chopped liver. Chicken and turkey livers can go in whole and add a tasty nutritious twist to your meal.
Chilli Con Carne
Another great meal to play around with is the ever popular chilli con carne. Rather than playing around with the recipe itself, one great idea is to bake potatoes in the oven, scoop out most of the potato, fill with chilli and bake for a further 10 minutes for a unique twist on a traditional meal.
You could also try swapping out some of the beef mince as we suggested in the spaghetti bolognese recipe, although if you have used a lot of beans you may want to avoid this.
For the healthiest option, leave the chilli alone and replace the usual rice or potatoes with quinoa.
Pizza
It is no surprise that we have turned back to Italian cuisine for this last one. Hands up how many people buy a pizza from the store and then add cheese or other ingredients to it? Of course, we have all done it, but why not just make it yourself from scratch?
For a sweet treat, instead of making traditional dough, use filo pastry topped with chocolate spread and a few packets of Haribo’s for a unique twist on a globally popular dish.
