What are they for?
To put it simply, regional anesthesia conferences are a significant event, not only for anesthesiologists, but for professionals in the field of medicine and science. More than a handful of these conferences are held annually, one of them is organized by The European Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Therapy (ESRA).
ESRA Congress 2012
Every year since ESRA held its first congress in Edinburg in 1982, anesthesiologists, physicians, clinicians and scientists in various specialties gather in a pre-determined European city to explore the latest updates on regional anesthesia. In addition to the highly practical scientific programme that the ESRA conferences offer, it also provides the attendees an opportunity to expand their network and share their knowledge in the industry.
The programme
This year’s conferences offer a comprehensive scientific programme and, as seen in the official 31st Annual ESRA Congress 2012’s website, interactive. This allows attendees to build their own itinerary that they can sync with their Outlook Calendar. The programme is filled with talks by a host of notable speakers from different cities in Europe as well as from the USA. Some of the confirmed speakers as of June 2012 are:
- Jose A. Aguirre, Switzerland
- Xavier Capdevila, France
- Paul Kessler, Germany
- Arvi Yli-Hankala, Finland
- Santhanam Suresh, USA
- Maria Pia Rainaldi, Italy
- Steven Renes, The Netherlands
- Nicholas B. Scott, The United Kingdom
- Athina Vadalouca, Greece
- Patrick Van Houwe, Belgium
When and where

Known primarily for its wines, anesthesiologists, physicians, clinicians, scientists and all the other participants are sure to raise their glass numerous times in between conferences. In addition to the best wines in the world, Bordeaux is popular among travelers because of its quaint cafes, gardens and museums.
