A lot of people claim to be SEO experts and it’s easy to find thousands of articles about the subject on-line. However, how many of these people actually know what they are writing about? Many of these so-called experts offer vague and cryptic advice such as “update a blog regularly” or “update your Google plus account” since it may offer value in the future. How do you know If someone is a true SEO whiz or not? Well, for starters, they would know how to optimize a brand new site on-page and off-page and actually receive top rankings for keywords that actually matter (not obscure ones no one actually searches for). Here are a few tips that actually really work.
On-Page and Off-Page SEO Needs To Match
The theme and on-page text needs to match the inbound links. On-Page text should be condensed and to the point without being overly spammy. Pages should focus on specific themes and it’s generally best to build individual pages targeting specific keywords. For example, if you have a car dealership website you do not want to build 10 different pages focused on the Ford Fusion.
Build Links From A Large Variety Of Sources
The most valuable links that are “high value” are from relevant articles, guest posts, comments. Social Bookmarks have their role but are not high value links at all; I would rate them a 2 on a 1-10 scale in terms of “total SEO value”. Google Plus has VERY little SEO value at the moment in terms of actually contributing to the actual ranking positions. In addition, anchor text should be varied. For example, if you are optimizing for an auto dealer site you will want to avoid using the link “used cars” ad nauseum. Mix it up with the brand name and other variations such as “used autos” and “used cars for sale”. Google is no dummy and nothing stands out more than using the same anchor text incessantly. Links should ideally come from a large variety of sources such as blog comments, insightful guest posts, a few relevant directories and various web 2.0 properties.
Think outside The Box
Think of creative, non-typical ways to obtain links such as building a useful app or a widget. A useful widget has a higher chance of getting re-posted and that could be a good thing if you get a link back to your website every single time. For example, if you own an auto business, why not create a widget that can help car owners save money on automotive costs?
