If we are sick, signs and indications could be seen in many different parts of our body. Lifeless and withering hair could indicate specific conditions in our body. People who are active and fully healthy are likely to have excellent scalp and hair. Regardless of our condition, we should take care of our scalp. Proper intake of minerals and vitamins could have accelerated growth of hair. One of the most essential nutrients is biotin and it’s one of the B complex vitamins. Proper intake of biotin could prevent gray hair and overall hair loss. Biotin is also essential to give us healthy nerve tissues, bone marrow and skin, including our scalp.
Biotin works together with other B vitamins. As an example, our body will be abler to convert protein and glucose more easily into energy. Biotin deficiency could cause dry scalp, scaly scalp, brittle nail, brittle hair, hair loss, muscular pain, loss of appetite, depression and skin inflammation. If we want to consume more biotin, we could include more dairy products, egg yolks, walnut, lean poultry meat, almond, walnut, romaine lettuce, sunflower seeds, cauliflower, green peas, liver, yeast, mushrooms, clams, soybeans, whole grains and oatmeal.
We should make sure to get biotin from fresh produce, because it can be destroyed by heat curing and canning. It means that we would get little or no biotin from canned peas or mushrooms. Alternatively, we could get biotin from supplements. The recommended dosage for adults is between 35 to 100 mcg each day. The amount of recommended biotin depends on the overall condition of the individual. In reality, if our body is healthy, we are able to synthesize biotin. It is important to be aware that we are having eating disorder, it is likely that our body is unable to make enough biotin.
Vitamin B complex also includes folic acid, niacin, riboflavin and thiamine. They should also contribute in ensuring healthy hair and scalp. If both are healthy, they will grow at optimum speed. Iron is also needed to ensure proper growth of hair. Iron deficiency could cause anemia and depression, both are causes of hair loss and unhealthy scalp. We can obtain more iron from dark green vegetables, collard, egg yolk, red meat, prunes, raisins, clams, soybeans, iron enriched cereals and soybeans. Vitamin C is also essential to make sure that our body can properly absorb iron.
