One of the best things about getting married, or at least for the vast majority of couples, is that you are also starting to live together and that you might be moving into a new place where you will become a true family. Decorating such a place, your new apartment, or house or anything else, is one of the most exciting decoration projects of your life and we would like to provide you with a few tips that might help you come up with your dream home.
Choose Your Colors
One of the first things that you do when you decorate any space is choosing the colors. Some people do this depending on some theme that they have planned for their home or for separate rooms. Others simply have favorite colors that they want to see on their walls. Some have simply gone with white, knowing that white is never a huge mistake. One of the things that you can always do is educate yourself on the different colors, their interactions and their effects on the mood. The good news is that this your new home and that you can do whatever you want with it.
Your New Bedroom
Not to be suggestive, but newlywed couples do spend more time in the bedroom than other people; this is a fact. This is why your bedroom needs to be decorated with full attention and not just remain an afterthought, a room where you plop a bed and a TV. Make your bedroom a safe haven, a place clear of all distractions of the modern world and technology. All you need is a bed, two nightstands, a couple of bedside lamps and perhaps a cupboard. Some couples cannot live without a TV in their bedroom and this is perfectly fine. Just don’t make it a second living room.
Design a Relaxing Area Outside
If your new home is a house, you will have no troubles finding a nice little area in your backyard where you can put up a small relaxation area where you will be able to sit down and unwind as a couple. A few comfortable chairs, perhaps a swing, a DIY table and some lanterns. Before you know it, you will have your perfect spot in the whole white world. You can do the same on your balcony. Once again, a few hairs, a small table and a lot of plants around you, turning your balcony into a garden.
The Secret is in Details
When you get down to it, living spaces tend to look alike. You will always find a home that has the same color pattern as yours. You will even find apartments or houses with the same furniture as yours, the same layout or something like that. This is why you need details that will give extra life to your new home, something that will make it completely and uniquely yours.
For example, you can buy a gorgeous, rich shaggy rug for your living room, with the design you like, providing you with warmth and spicing up the living room. Or, you can put up photos of you as a couple and your friends in the kitchen, have a small area that will break the monotony of most kitchens. You can also find all kinds of cool retro thingies ad knick-knacks that will further liven your home, like an orange lamp from the 1970s or an alarm-clock with all kinds of additions from the 80s.
In the end, you need to do what you want and what you think will turn this new space into the perfect home for the two of you as a couple. It is your space, your freedom and your life.
