Glamour Photography: 4 Handy Tips
Glamour photography can seem a little daunting when you are first considering getting a photo shoot done for yourself, your family, or a loved one. However, a photograph is one of the most personal and thoughtful gifts you can give – a permanent keepsake that won’t just be thrown in a drawer or forgotten about. There’s a little more to consider than just booking a shoot when working with glamour photography, so here’s a few tips to work through prior to your glamour experience.
Choose your company carefully
Although a glamour photo shoot can be a very beautiful experience, it can also be a very expensive one. Make sure you work out your budget prior to booking a shoot, and check their pricing list for any hidden costs. Do your research prior to booking, look at photographers in your city and their experience levels, portfolios, and the style that they work in; most companies and individuals will have an online portfolio to take a look at. Make sure that you feel one hundred percent comfortable with the person you are dealing with, the photographer, the price, the style and the services they provide (hair, makeup, how many photographs etc) before booking.
Be clear about what you want
When having a glamour photography shoot done, there are many options to consider, depending on the company you choose and the style you are looking for. Most companies will offer photo shoots for individuals, couples, families, weddings and special events, and many will also offer specialised pregnancy photo shoots with either you alone or with your partner. Ensure that you make it clear to the photographer or company when making your booking what type of shoot you want, and how many people will be involved. Many glamour photographers offer the option of nude or partially clothed shoots, so be sure to decide on whether you want to go au naturale or prefer to remain clothed.
Follow the company’s instructions
Most glamour photography companies and individual photographers will have a set of instructions to follow before you attend your photo shoot. Though it may seem strange, this is just to ensure that the shoot works as well as possible for you. Examples of instructions could include ensuring that your nail polish isn’t chipped, that (if your hair is not natural) your roots are touched up, and that you bring along anything you’d like to be photographed with; props, a favourite shirt, a pretty dress. Often photographers will also ask that you refrain from wearing makeup to the shoot, as they will have their own makeup artists and hairdressers to ensure you are looking your very best for the shoot.
Relax: you’re in good hands
Although as mentioned above, it is best to decide on exactly what type of shoot you’d like prior to booking, it is also very important to remember that once the shoot begins, you’re in the hands of a professional. Glamour photographers know what they are doing, and are good at what they do. Let the nerves fall away, relax, and enjoy the pampering.
