One of the biggest cyber crimes that have been in limelight these days is revenge porn. It is an act where people post obscene photographs of someone without their consent. Such materials are either used to blackmail the victim or take revenge.

According to the law if a person has given consent to make sexual images, but hasn’t given permission to disclose it publicly then that person is prey to revenge porn. Most of them are victims of their friends with whom they have ended the relationship.

Removal Procedure
The first and foremost thing the victim can do is to get that photograph or video removed. The website or social media can be contacted directly or by a solicitor to get it removed.
Contact All Websites
Not all websites are local therefore getting your photograph removed can be a difficult job. In such case, you can contact them and other search engines to get that image deleted immediately. In case, any one of them disagrees then you have complete liberty to drag them to court.
Create an Injunction
Injunction is a warning or an order against any criminal offense. In case, your enemy or website is not accepting your request of removing the images then you can get injunction from the court. To draft it carefully, you should always seek help from a solicitor.
Civil Law Action
According to the civil law, you can contact the criminal with the assistance of a lawyer to remove images without dragging police into it. In such case, you can also ask for compensation for all the damages that have been made to your reputation.
Criminal Law Action
Revenge porn is a criminal act and therefore if you want you can drag the criminal and the website owner to the court for harassment. This will include police, court and a solicitor in your defense. You can also put charges of blackmailing, harassment and voyeurism if needed.
Law
It was in 2015 that a law was made against criminals for revenge porn. The punishment was imprisonment for two years and sometimes the criminals were also charged good amount of compensation for harassment. It is now in 2017, that the imprisonment has been extended to ten years. This not only includes revenge porn incidents, but also issues like stalking and harassment.
Therefore, it is always recommended to never share your password with anyone no matter how close that person is and to keep your personal things in a private section. There is a reason for adding privacy settings on social media and we should abide to that rule.
